WELCOME

Welcome to this collection of rare monoprints and sketches by the late Roberto De Lamonica.

Brazilian-born Roberto De Lamonica, at the end of his too-short life, began to work on monoprints the full size of his press bed, surreal and bursting with luminous color and frequently inflected with images from his Latin American heritage.

The largest collection of these extant (a mere 16 in all) was gathered by his patron and dealer, Anson Peckham, Co-Director of AtelierAE in New York. In 1995 ten of the late monoprints were exhibited there and, even today, the residual collection represents the largest group of monoprints and drawings still in private hands.

The compositions are masterful. The depths and colors are created with layer after layer of semi-transparent inks which – as with the old masters working up from grisaille – capture light and suggest a certain weirdness. But there are no Gothic virgins in blue here: there are clowns, punks and beasts, fires and razor blades in iconographic colors.

Where working drawings are available, giving a very rare look into the process of the artist, they will be sold only as a unit.

Peckham’s widow, Ellen Peckham (who was a student of Mr. De Lamonica) is eager to see the work secure in varied museums and educational institutions. She invites you to learn more about the artist, view works on offer and check availability.
